The group Light-activatable molecules for bioimaging and therapeutic applications at the Section of Organic Chemistry of the University of Barcelona, led by Dr. Vicente Marchán, is seeking a highly motivated PhD student to join our team
Position Overview
We are focused on developing innovative light-activated drugs for bioimaging and therapeutic applications, with a special emphasis on photodynamic therapy (PDT) and photopharmacology. The successful candidate will:
• Synthesize new drug candidates and conjugate them with tumor-targeting moieties such as peptides and antibodies.
• Conduct in vitro and in vivo biological evaluations of these compounds.
Program Details
• The PhD student will be enrolled in the Organic Chemistry Doctoral Program at the University of Barcelona.
• The position offers comprehensive training in areas including organic synthesis, medicinal chemistry, spectroscopic techniques, and chemical biology, supported by the HYPOLIGHT project (PID2023-146161OB-I00), funded by the Agencia Estatal de Investigación.
• Access to state-of-the-art scientific equipment and facilities at the University of Barcelona and the Institute of Biomedicine of the University of Barcelona (IBUB).
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Pharmacy.
• Master’s degree in Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field, with competitive academic marks.
• Strong background in organic synthesis, medicinal chemistry, and/or chemical biology is highly recommended.
