PhD Position in Food Science and Technology

We are looking for a PhD candidate to join the research group of Postharvest Biology and Technology in the Department of Food Technology, Engineering and Science at the University of Lleida (Spain) with a 4-year PhD contract.
The Postharvest Biology and Technology research group has extensive experience in PhD training with more than 11 PhD theses in the last 10 years and 2 ongoing theses. Research outputs have resulted in more than 190 research papers published in high impact journals.
The PhD fellow will be integrated into the Doctorate Program: ‘Agricultural and Food Science and Technology’ of the University of Lleida. The program obtained Mention of Quality (MCD2007-00037) in 2007, followed by the mention of excellence in 2011, which has been accredited in 2022.
The candidate will join our research group and work in the context of a National Project funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation. The project is focused on developing strategies to control the fruit juice spoilage caused by Alicyclobacillus acidoterrestris and to mitigate the risk associated with patulin in apple juice through biotransformation. To obtain the defined objectives, the project mixes microbiological, molecular, and chemical techniques.
Candidate Requirements:
• Bachelor’s and master’s degree in Food Science and Technology, biotechnology, Human Nutrition and Dietetics, or similar.
• Records of the bachelor’s degree of 6.5 or higher (out of 10).
• High oral and written communication skills in English.
• Knowledge of Catalan or Spanish is desirable.
• Collaborative person able to work in a team of researchers. Also, able to work in autonomous way.
• Skills to communicate/document the results in a comprehensible and professional way.
• High motivation for the research topic and strong compromise for work.
