The Instituto Biofisika (IBF) is a joint research centre of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). In close partnership with the Fundacion Biofisika Bizkaia (FBB), the centre focuses on fundamental and translational biophysics research and offers a highly collaborative culture. Accredited as a Basque Excellence Research Centre (BERC), the institute provides outstanding shared facilities for advanced biophysical and structural biology approaches in a new research building in the main Leioa campus of the University of the Basque Country.
Description of the project and position offered
A postdoctoral position (2 years) is available at Instituto Biofisika. The selected candidate will join a collaborative project (NanoNeuro) with Dr. Mónica Carril (Instituto Biofisika), in close collaboration with Dr. Marek Grzelczak (CFM), Dr. Aitzol García-Etxarri (DIPC) and Prof. Rafael Yuste (Columbia University, DIPC), and will work in the functionalisation of hybrid nanomaterials for neuronal photo-stimulation.
This postdoctoral position is framed within in the IKUR strategy promoted by the Education Department of the Basque Government to boost Scientific Research in specific strategic areas, such as Neurobioscience, and to position the Basque country at the forefront of international research in those fields (https://www.science.eus/es/ikur).
The ideal candidate must hold a PhD in Chemistry or similar with background in synthetic chemistry applied to nanoparticle functionalization. Experience in bioorthogonal chemistry, in vivo/in vitro targeting with nanoparticles or nanomedicine will be highly valued for this position.
