Postdoc Position

General Statement: One postdoctoral research position is open in the Colloid Chemistry Group (http://coloides.webs.uvigo.es/nano/main.html) in the Department of Physical Chemistry at University of Vigo (Spain). The position is available immediately and initially offered for one year with the possibility for extension depending upon funding and performance.

Project Details: This project (Nanolamps) aims to apply upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs)-based nanostructures, which combine plasmonic nanoparticles (NPs) and UCNPs, as light sources for optical control of cellular activity at the nanoscale. The project brings together a multidisciplinary team of biologists, chemists and materials scientists. Ideal candidates will be able to work in multidisciplinary teams and effectively bridge across disciplines. Because of the nature of this project, successful candidates will have demonstrated ability to work effectively with attention to detail, and will be able to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and deliver quality work while managing multiple projects.

Required Qualifications: A Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, Optics Materials Science or closely related fields and proven track record of quality publications in high impact factor, peer reviewed journals. Candidate with experience and knowledge in optical physics is preferred. Ability to work individually and in teams is a must, along with excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications: Postdoc with experience in instrument development for front-end Luminescence/Fluorescence and Raman Spectroscopy. A strong background in development of optical instruments/ techniques is a strong requirement for successful application. Working- and fundamental knowledge in upconversion nanoparticles (bottom-up fabrication, surface modification, optical characterization, etc.) is desirable. Experience in nanoparticle characterization techniques, including (but not limited to) TEM, SEM, DLS, Zeta Potential, thermal analysis, luminescence spectrometry, NMR, FT-IR.
