Applications are invited for a PhD position (4 years) at the Biofunctional Nanomaterials Unit of the Cooperative Research Centre for Biomaterials (CIC biomaGUNE) to contribute to the development of new inorganic nanomaterials for biomedical applications.
The successful candidate will synthesise, characterise and study multifunctional nanomaterials for application in vaccine development against infectious diseases and cancer.
The specific aims of the work are:
1. To synthesize different nanoparticles (NPs) with specific optoelectronic properties and surface chemistry.
2. To attach defined biomolecules to the NPs.
3. To image the uptake and processing of derivatised NPs in living subjects in vitro and in vivo using complementary molecular imaging modalities such as fluorescence imaging, positron emission tomography (PET), single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)).
4. To analyse and optimise immune responses by varying the composition and presentation of the immunostimulatory surface ligands
Job requirements and conditions: Candidates should have an academic qualification in Chemistry or biosciences with good grades, and good communication skills, enthusiasm, flexibility and commitment to working to a very high standard. The position requires good knowledge of English. The position is available immediately.
Environment: CIC biomaGUNE is a newly established centre developing interdisciplinary research in biofunctional nanomaterials, biosurfaces and molecular imaging. The infrastructure of the centre has been designed, constructed and equipped to carry out ambitious research projects and to develop innovative applications in the areas of Functional Pre-Clinical and Molecular Imaging and in Nanomedicine. For this, it provides a research environment/conditions and equipment which are unique in Spain and among the best in Europe. The institute is located in the beautiful coastal city of San Sebastian, which offers excellent opportunities for outdoor activities and recreation.
Application procedure: Candidates should submit (in English) by e-mail a C.V. and a cover letter stating why they are interested in this position and the names and contract information of two academic references to rrhh en cicbiomagune.es indicating reference 312 in the subject. Informal enquiries should be sent to: jmareque en cicbiomagune.es.
