PhD Genomics

Research description:
We are searching for motivated undergraduate students interested in pursuing a PhD thesis to apply for competitive funding from the Generalitat of Catalonia (Ajuts FI, 2011). The award consists of a three year working contract . If successful in obtaining this competitive award, the candidate selected will develop and carry out a research project focused on the study of miRNAs using genomic methodologies. (PI10/01154: "Use of miRNA expression profiles in serum to study EGFR dependent lung cancer progression " led by Dr. Lauro Sumoy, head of the Genomics Unit of the IMPPC and principal investigator of the grant.

Requirements:

-Spanish university four-five year degree (Licenciado) or equivalent from a non-Spanish university in experimental sciences including: biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, medicine, pharmacy, pharmacology awarded after January 1, 2009
-At least 60 ECTS credits completed towards a Masters degree before the end of 2011
-Minimum average grade of 1.6 to apply to fellowship (2.2 preferred)
-English and Catalan or Spanish
-Relevant exposure to research in molecular biology and/or bioinformatics through academic training or previous work will be considered a plus
-Authorship in scientific publications will also be taken into account
