- Descripción
The Environmental and Analytical Chemistry (EAC) Group activities were initiated in 1998 at the Chemistry Department at Instituto Tecnológico e Nuclear (ITN).
This is a multidisciplinary team constituted by Chemists Chemical Engineers, Geologists and Oceanographers. Different facilities have been implemented and are nowadays maintained by the team: Energy-Dispersive X-Ray Fluorescence, Light Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometers and Radiocarbon Dating and a clean Laboratory with a High Performance Liquid Chromatograph coupled to an Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (HPLC/ICPMS) dedicated to isotopic and trace element research.
Env. Geochemistry and Oceanographic research is being carried out under a multi-proxy approach, including sedimentology, geochronology, absolute dating and paleoecology.
Collaboration with CSIC (Spain) allows us the access to GC/MS facilities.
KEYWORDS: Geochemistry; Sediments; Sedimentary Organic matter; Heavy metals.PROJECTS: We are currently working in the Analytical characterization of environmental changes occurred in recent sediments and cores sampled in different Portuguese estuarine areas. This project includes not only the study of different forms of sedimentary organic matter (in collaboration with CSIC-Spain) but also elemental determinations particularly the toxic heavy metals.
REQUISITES: Good knowledge of English (written and spoken; Portuguese and/or Spanish is a plus); PhD in Chemistry, Geochemistry or Env. Chem.; Competitive CV.
APPLICATION: If you are interested in working in this area and want to join our team, please send by e-mail a detailed CV and a short motivation letter (recommendation letter is also welcomed).
DEADLINE FOR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST: 9th August 2010.
