Postdoctoral research fellow in metalloantibiotics

We are looking for a highly motivated Postdoc with a strong background on organometallic compounds in organic synthesis to perform research in antibacterial drug discovery based on metalloantibiotics.

Project information:
Infections caused by the ESKAPE group of pathogens showing resistance to commonly used antibiotics are a global threat to public health. The greatest alarm proceed from the Gram-negative members of this group due to the slow introduction of new antibiotics and their lack of really new structural motives. It is anticipated that drug-resistant diseases infections they may cause 10 million of deaths by the year 2050 if the rapid progress of antimicrobial resistance is not contained. The aim of the project is to continue the development of the hit-to-lead process of a new type of metalloantibiotics based on organometallic complexes of gold.
The University of Almería is an exciting work place with an integrated campus located in front of the Mediterranean see, close to the city of Almería, with excellent infrastructure for research on organic and organometallic chemistry including modern NMR instruments with a unique configuration for multinuclear magnetic resonance structural studies from 300 to 600 MHz plus cryoprobe, High Resolution Mass Spectrometers (HRMS) and powder and single crystal X-ray diffractometers. In addition, the pleasant climate of Almería all year around offers the opportunity of enjoying the Mediterranean live style in a city with a lively atmosphere and with many possibilities regarding culture, gastronomy and sport.

We are looking for highly motivated, well organized and enthusiastic researcher with a strong background in organic and organometallic chemistry and experience in NMR data analysis for structural elucidation of complex molecules. Experience in activities related to medicinal chemistry will be positively evaluated. The candidates should show a high degree of initiative and independence and have aptitudes for team activities. Fluency in spoken and written English is a requirement.
Start Date: January 2020.

Employment Conditions:
We offer a very appealing position in an inspiring multidisciplinary environment aimed at developing new organometallic antibiotics against multiresistant bacteria. The position is for one year with possible extension for one additional years. As a PostDoc you will be offered a salary in accordance with those paid at Andalusian universities at an EU postdoctoral level (ca 2.300 € per month).
