The interplay between cells and tissues with mechanical forces from their environment emerges as a novel key aspect of both organismal homeostasis and disease. Tumour stiffness correlates with poor prognosis and resistance to different therapeutic interventions. Disturbed blood flow patterns are directly causative of atherosclerosis at specific sites, by eliciting local arterial wall remodelling. The Mechanoadaptation and Caveolae Biology Lab at CNIC aims to understand general molecular and cellular principles governing these reciprocal ties between living systems and mechanical forces, and their impact on disease. Our multidisciplinary research program combines state-of-the-art cell biology, omics and biophysics with advanced mouse models of disease, ensuring a solid, broad training in an environment of excellence.
We welcome highly motivated candidates to apply to Juan de la Cierva postdoctoral programmes, to investigate basic novel questions on i) how living cells and tissues adapt to mechanical forces; and ii) how these mechanoadaptive systems contribute to the physiopathology of cancer and cardiovascular disease (CVD). Candidates should comply with eligibility requirements of either modality http://www.ciencia.gob.es/portal/site/MICINN/" rel="external">PhD degree obtained within January 2018 to December 2019 (´Formación´) or January 2015 to December 2017 (´Incorporación´); http://www.ciencia.gob.es/portal/site/MICINN/ and possess a strong academic record, with first authorship in one Q1 publication at least. Previous experience in extracellular matrix biology, proteomics, and/or animal models research, will be positively valued. A PDF enclosing a letter of motivation, CV and contact details of 3 references should be addressed to Prof. Miguel Ángel del Pozo Barriuso´s PA (msancheza@cnic.es) before January 6th.
