Field of study: Biology and Ecology
Admission Requirements: Candidates with a degree in the field of Biological Sciences will be admitted to the call. Previous experience in Conservation Biology and authorship of scientific papers will be positively valued. Autonomy, critical thinking and interest in working in a team will be valued. Essential to be fluent in English both speaking and writing, demonstrated by authorship of scientific articles, reports, etc...
Work Programme: The scholar will be responsible for a thorough compilation and synthesis of bibliographic scientific and technical literature on the impacts of linear infrastructures on the fragmentation and connectivity of ecosystems, species and ecological corridors, and of protocols and methodologies available and employed to assess and monitor these impacts. Together with the PI he/she will participate in the writing of a state of art manual on this topic.
Legislation and regulations: Law No.. 40/2004, of August 18 (Status of Scientific Research Fellow); Regulations for Advanced Training and Qualification of Human Resources in 2010 and according to ICETA Regulation for Grants approved by the FCT.
Place of work: The work will be developed at the Centro de Investigação em Biodiversidade e Recursos Genéticos (CIBIO, Universidade do Porto) do Instituto de Ciências Agrárias e Agro-alimentares (ICETA) or elsewhere (domestic or foreign locations) necessary to implement the work plan under scientific guidance of Prof. Dr. David Vieites.
Duration of the scholarship: The scholarship will have the duration of 12 months, expected to start October 1st 2013.
Value of monthly maintenance allowance: The amount of the grant is between 745 and 1245 Euros, according to the table of values of the scholarships from FCT, is fixed depending on the experience of the selected candidate. A subsequent review of these values can be considered on request, providing proof of more advanced academic degrees, but subject to the availability of funds from the Project. The scholarship includes payment of voluntary social insurance. All payments are made monthly by bank transfer.
Methods of selection: The selection methods used will be the curriculum vitae evaluation (50%), experience and additional training in the project area (40%) and motivation of the candidate (10%). The jury may not award the scholarship if the quality of the candidates is less than desired.

Form of advertising / notification of results: The final evaluation results will be publicized through an ordered list to be displayed in the premises of CIBIO, being the candidate approved notified by e-mail. The contest results will be communicated to the remaining applicants via email.
Deadline for applications and forms for submission of applications: The period for acceptance of applications runs from August 26th to September 15th, 2013.
