Descripción

Research project:
The main goal is to conduct the heterogeneisation of an anaerobic BAC (Biologically Activated Carbon) treatment, avoiding mixing of the microorganisms and the contaminants, through a stirred double-cell membrane reactor. To this aim, the candidate will check different possibilities to prepare carbon-based membranes allowing electron transport and confinement of microorganisms and pollutants in their respective compartments. As final step, design and construct a compact continuous tubular membrane reactor and demonstrate its feasibility.

Requirements:
A master degree (or equivalent), ending before September 2012, is required with excellent academic records in chemical/environmental/process engineering, applied chemistry or closely related areas. Good knowledge of English is mandatory. Previous research experience will be considered as a valuable asset. The candidate will join the Doctorate Programme in Chemical, Environmental and Process Engineering, which holds the Quality Mention of the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation, to start a three-year research period before obtaining the doctoral degree.
Also candidates with a B.Sc. degree are welcome. In that case, the candidate must complete the M.Sc. in Research in Chemical and Process Engineering.
In both cases, the nationals must secure a B.Sc. after January 1st 2008 and the foreigners after January 1st 2007.

Benefits:
The CREPI group is an internationally recognized leader in applications of Chemical Engineering for the treatment and recovery of wastewater and the reduction and valorisation of wastes using advanced oxidation processes, membrane technology and biotechnologic solutions. The group will support the attendance to international congresses and, at least, a three-month stay in a foreigner research laboratory. The position is fully funded with an attractive remuneration package from Spanish FPI programme (Project CTM2011-23069).

Application:
Official deadline: February 23rd, 2012
Prior to filling up the on-line application form, please send an application letter or message, two-page CV, transcription of academic records and references to Dr. Josep Font.
Estimated start date: October 2012.
